Level 1A Art & Design Online:

Explore The Elements of Art and Design in sketchbooks with photos and your own playful doodling illustrations.  This course provides the basics and foundations for designing.

By learning to understand and utilize art and design skills your questions on all aspects of art creation will be answered on any project. Artwork exercises are analyzed to develop understanding.  The concepts from this course are easily adaptable to student’s individual work.

Open to All Levels of Experience

Learn through personalized online Power Point Presentations with your tutor Gail Harker, with discussions, videos and a PDF’s of all presentations. The PDFs and videos will be sent to students after each online session. There are exercises to develop art skills and ideas for using design principles.

Learn about art symbolism as you progress. Develop sketchbooks and notebooks to explore and display ideas. Much of the artwork is done with either a sketchbook, black and white paper, tracing paper, graph paper, scissors, pencils and colored pencils, pens and felt pens.

Gail Harker, L.C.G.I.

A Canadian who moved to Britain in 1976 with her American husband and family, Gail studied art in Canada, England and Scotland.  She completed both Parts 1 and 2 (Diploma) of the City and Guilds Design and Embroidery course with Distinction in both parts.  She was awarded the Senior Qualification of Licentiateship (LCGI) by the City and Guilds Institute and continued on teaching City and Guilds and becoming an External Verifier for student work.  Returning to the US with her family in 1995, she has taught courses in Art, Design and Embroidery and directed the Arts Center she founded in Washington state.  She has written five books on embroidery published in both Britain and the US.  Over her career, she has taught thousands of students, sharing her passion for embroidery, textiles, art and design.

Mentoring Session with Gail HarkerSpecific sessions (see schedule) include a personal individual online tutorial. Individual Tutorials will either be on class day or the day preceding or following class day. 30 minutes tutorial time will be scheduled in advance for each student who sends photos of ongoing class work.
